Digital Learning Platforms. Spotlight on: The benefits of digital learning platforms

In Winter 2021, Pearson surveyed 749 learners and 72 instructors in STEM and business/economics courses in an effort to understand their perceptions and expectations when using a digital learning platform in quantitative courses. These learners and instructors were general users of digital learning platforms including Pearson products such as MyLab and Mastering.
Pearson’s Efficacy and Learning team reviewed six of the top OER competitors and evaluated Pearson’s strengths against each of these offerings. Through this work we found that Pearson excels with supporting instructors and helping students achieve personalized outcomes.

Data indicate that students with above average Dynamic Study Module scores earned average MyLab quiz scores 15 percentage points higher than those with below average DSM scores. 94% of respondents on an end-of-semester survey agreed that having access to MyLab assignments and the eText [through the Pearson Inclusive Access model] on the first day of class increased their chances of getting a good grade in this course.

Students who scored higher on Learning Catalytics in-class assignments, on average, earned higher exam grades and higher final course grades. Ninety percent of student survey respondents agreed that the in-class Learning Catalytics questions helped their understanding of the lecture content or helped them identify misconceptions they had about the lecture material.
